Task 14

                                                                    SCARFACE

Released in 1932 by Howard Hawks and Richard Rosson is a famous film noir that was made to aware the citizens of America and send a message to the American government about the gang wars and the violence in the streets.
The story’s about a young adult that fights to climb the ladder of the success in the mob. Below I will be talking about the opening of this movie highlighting technical points like the mise en scene, sound, editing and cinematography.

SOUND:
In the opening sequence in Scarface there is violin’s, cellos and trumpets score. These were used in the 1900’s because this sort of music was most enjoyed back in those days. It is also very southing to listen to. Then, there is no other sound than the diegetic sound made by the 3 men talking around the table. At the end of the scene we can hear a Foley sound made by a man whistling followed by a special effect of gunshot.

EDITING:
In this opening, they no particular use of editing because the movie was made in the early 30’s.At the time, movies were filmed with super 8 cameras that directly gave the images on blank screen.

CINEMATOGRAPHY:
In this opening, it all starts with a warm angle shot that shows a street lamp indicating the name of the street. On the same shot the camera turns to the restaurant the keeps filming the scene until the end when the man get killed. For this, they only made one long shot.

MISE-EN-SCENE:
In this movie, the three men wear black suits, typical dress of film noir characters. Seated around a round table smoking cigarettes witch are often used as props in film noir movies. At the end of the opening, a guy wearing a hat holds a gun, witch are perfect props for this genre.

Task 16 and 17

Below, the mood board that I did by sticking photograph, icons and shapes. The dominant colors are black and white because the main theme of my mood boards is the FILM NOIR genre. On the background, an old picture of the city of Chicago, a typical place for film noir movies. On the both sides of the mood board, a man in a black costume witch represents the main character of any noir stories. On the other side, the woman, a crucial character in film noir, she often changes every thing in stories. On the bottom, a group of man in black that represent the gangs.  We can find a tommy gun and a little handgun, these are usually the weapons used in Film noir. Finally, in the center, there is a cigarette, maybe the most used prop in any movies.

Sunday 9 October 2016

We chose the genre 'film noir'.
Below, are the reasons why with chose it and a breif history of the genre with some props, setting and character usually used for it. We also published the story line and some information of the upcoming film that we will create.

TASK 11

These 3 Images are all posters for Film Noir themed movies. In each Photo there is a man and a woman usually in a up close shot. In the first 2 photos the man and the woman are both evolved in sexual activities. In the last photo the woman does posses a sexy pose. This all hints to the film noir setting, the woman being beautiful and aroused. However in the first 2 photos there is a gun involved and it possibly hints to the fact that in film noir movies woman are very two face and would kill their lover. The man is always fooled by the woman to start a relationship and make them think the woman can be trusted.
